Academic freedom under threat: open letter from rectors of Dutch universities

17 February 2017

On 17 February a joint letter signed by the rectors of Dutch universities appeared in the Dutch daily newspaper NRC. In this letter, the rectors express their concern about recent developments in the US and other parts of the world that pose a threat to academic freedom.

The undersigned call on the Dutch government, the governments of the EU member states, the European Commission, the European Parliament and governments around the world to forcefully oppose any attacks on academic freedom.

You can read the open letter below (in Dutch). Also see an executive summary below of a report on an academic freedom monitoring project by Scholars at Risk.
