Separate boards UvA and AUAS as from 1 March
On Monday, 27 February the Executive Board and the Supervisory Boards of the UvA and the AUAS decided to end the administrative union of the UvA-AUAS Executive Board as from 1 March 2017, to separate the various staff departments, and to retain the shared service units. This decision was taken with the approval of the representative advisory bodies of both institutions.
With this decision, the partnership that has been built in the area of teaching and research and in shared service provision will continue. Nevertheless, as from 1 March 2017 the UvA and the AUAS will each get its own Executive Board, which will focus on strengthening the individual profile and identity of its respective institution. The UvA and the AUAS believe this decision represents an important step towards a future in which both institutions can steer an own course and continue to strengthen each other in certain areas.
Staffing Executive Boards
As from 1 March 2017, Professor Huib de Jong (who will be reappointed as rector of the AUAS on 1 March and will also become acting president) and Nico Moolenaar (member ad interim) will form the AUAS Executive Board. A recruitment process is currently underway for a board member who will be responsible for the Operational Management and Finances portfolio. A third board member will be recruited at a later stage. On 1 March the UvA will start with an Executive Board comprising Geert ten Dam (president), Karen Maex (rector magnificus) and Kees van Ast (member ad interim). A recruitment process is also underway at the UvA for a board member who will be responsible for the Operational Management and Finances portfolio.
Retention of shared service provision
The decision also concerns the future service provision of the UvA and AUAS. The service units Administration Centre, ICT Services, Facility Services and the UvA-AUAS Library will remain intact, but will be instructed to ensure service provision is in certain areas better tailored to teaching and research. In the coming period the service units and faculties will elaborate this further in a detailed plan of action.
The Board has issued a separate instruction for the units Student Services and Student Affairs. This will follow the standard decision-making and advisory process.
