UvA supports call on governments to refrain from interference in university autonomy
The European University Association (EUA) recently called on governments to refrain from interfering in universities’ autonomy.
A recent example of such interference is a proposal by the Hungarian government to amend national legislation with a view to targeting the Central European University in Budapest, a longstanding EUA member. If adopted in its present form, the legislation will threaten the university’s capacity to operate in Hungary.
The UvA supports the EUA’S call and wishes to stress the important role autonomous universities play in society. See the EUA’s call.
