UvA through to next round of international architecture prize
With its design for the Roeterseiland Campus (buildings A, B, C, D), the University of Amsterdam (UvA) is through to the next round of the 2018 RIBA International Prize. The campus design is among the 20 nominated construction projects which are still in the running. The winner of the 2018 International Prize will be announced in November.
The award winner (nominations take place once every two years) is picked from submissions from architect's offices around the world. In total, 62 firms from 29 countries are participating in this renowned competition this year. The competition is organised by the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA), the English equivalent of the Royal Institute of Dutch Architects (Branchevereniging Nederlandse Architectenbureaus).
In March, the British judging panel visited the Roeterseiland Campus and were given a campus tour and presentation by the UvA and Allford Hall Monaghan Morris, the architectural firm that has been working on this campus over the last 11 years. The original design was created by urban architect, Norbert Gawronski.
