The Graduate School of Social Sciences offers several possibilities to make up for (slight) deficiencies.
Application not needed
Application for pre-Master's programmes and courses is not needed: the Admissions Committee will assess your application for the Master's programme and decide if a pre-Master's programme or course is needed and if it will sufficiently prepare you for entry to the Master's programme.
Promising students with an academic Bachelor's degree in a field related to social sciences, but without sufficient background in social sciences and medical anthropology and sociology and social sciences research methodology, may be admitted provided that they complete a pre-Master's programme. This half year 30 ECTS programme starts in February and is offered as a full-time programme.
Students with an HBO Bachelor’s degree in medical sciences may be admitted provided that they complete a pre-Master's programme of 60 ECTS. This programme starts in September and is offered as a full-time programme.
Please click here for more information about the tuition fee for the preparatory programme (please click on 'pre-Master's programme' on the left).
Promising HBO students with a social sciences or applied medical sciences background who have not yet obtained their degree in a field related to social sciences can obtain the fast track Bachelor programme in (Dutch taught) Culturele Antropologie en Ontwikkelingssociologie. Make an appointment with the study advisor of the Master Medical Anthropology and Sociology to discuss the possibilities.
Students with slightly insufficient background in anthropological theory or qualitative social science research methodology, may be admitted provided that they complete the e-courses Qualitative Research Methodology (3 ECTS) and/or the e-course Basic Anthropological Theory (4 ECTS) in the period prior to the Master's programme. Our e-courses are taught by lecturers of the programme and can be completed anywhere in the world.
The tuition fees for this two months long distance e-courses offered in November/January and May/July is EUR 400.
