Key note speech: Amsterdam: towards a third golden age?

In a recent speech, the Mayor of Amsterdam Eberhard van der Laan suggested that Amsterdam is heading for its third golden age. In this opening lecture Dr Otto Holman, reader in international relations and European integration studies, will briefly touch upon the previous 'golden ages’ in order to reach the conclusion that the past, present and future of the city of Amsterdam was and is a function of its role in the European hinterland. Europe is the key to the would-be success of Amsterdam in the coming decades.
