The Supervisory Board of the University of Amsterdam (UvA) has appointed Jan Lintsen MBA as a new member of the UvA Executive Board. The appointment will take effect on 1 September 2017.
Jan Lintsen (1962), who is currently a member of the Executive Board of The Hague University of Applied Sciences (THUAS), will be responsible for Finance and Operational Management. Lintsen succeeds Kees van Ast, who has filled this position on an interim basis since 1 January 2017.
Lintsen was unanimously chosen as the most suitable candidate during the selection process. The representative advisory bodies also issued a positive recommendation. The Supervisory Board is convinced it has found a strong financial manager in Lintsen. ‘With his specific knowledge and extensive experience, Jan Lintsen will be an asset to the UvA’, says Supervisor Board Chair Marise Voskens. ‘The Executive Board is now back to full strength, which is essential for administrative stability and continuity.’
Geert ten Dam, president of the UvA Executive Board and member of the appointment advisory committee, adds: ‘During the selection process, Jan Lintsen showed himself to be a sharp thinker and a collegial manager with a good sense of humour. I look forward to working together.’
Jan Lintsen has been a member of the THUAS Executive Board since September 2013. In this capacity, he is responsible for financial policy, facility matters, planning and control. In addition, he is actively engaged in educational reform, including the development of flexible and blended learning, and in improving the interplay between education, research and support.
After graduating cum laude in Public Administration at the University of Twente, Lintsen worked for the national government for more than 27 years. From 2003 to 2013, he worked at the Ministry of Infrastructure and the Environment, where in 2007 he became chief director of Finance, Management and Control. Prior to this, he was, among other things, director of Public Sector Information Policy at the Ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations.
The Executive Board is charged with the general management of the University of Amsterdam. As from 1 September 2017, the Board will be made up of Prof. Geert ten Dam (president), Prof. Karen Maex (rector magnificus and vice president) and Jan Lintsen MBA.
