The University of Amsterdam (UvA) Executive Board has appointed Prof. Agneta Fischer, professor of Emotions and Affective Processes and chair of the department of Psychology, as dean of the Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences. Fischer will officially take up the post on 1 September 2018 and will remain dean until a successor is found for Hans Brug, who is the current dean.
Brug will leave the UvA in September after being appointed director general of the Netherlands National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM). ‘I am tremendously pleased that Agneta Fischer, who has such extensive experience within the UvA, was willing to fill the position until such time as a new dean is appointed’, says Geert ten Dam, president of the UvA Executive Board.
Agneta Fischer (1958) has been affiliated with the UvA since 1991. Since 2012, she has been the research director of the Psychology Research Institute and a board member of the Amsterdam Brain and Cognition research priority area. Fischer was chair of the department of Psychology on a previous occasion, from 2006 to 2012. Between 2001 and 2005, she headed the Social Psychology programme group. Fischer also holds various administrative posts outside of the UvA. For example, she is the chair of the Dutch Association of Social Psychologists (ASPO) and was a member of the board of the Kurt Lewin Institute, the interuniversity research school for social psychology. In addition, she is co-director of the Consortium of European Emotion Researchers (CERE) and was president of the International Society of Research on Emotions (ISRE) from 2005 to 2009.
